December Book Haul [Book Haul #6]

Hey y'all! So clearly, I'm just eating my words all over the place lately, aren't I?! Remember how I said that my last book haul was probably my last book haul of the year? Oops. I bought more books. But this is definitely, absolutely, the last book haul of the year. PROMISE. Cross my heart and hope to die. Starting in the new year, I plan to do a book haul every two months rather than just doing one whenever it's ready.

But let's not waste any more time with introductions. Let's just jump right into it!

The Kingkiller Chronicles
Book 1: The Name of the Wind
Book 2: The Wise Man's Fear
by Patrick Rothfuss

I'd been planning to get The Name of the Wind for quite a while and finally ordered it off of Amazon. I hadn't planned on buying The Wise Man's Fear quite yet (although I'd definitely been considering it), but then I happened to find a used paperback copy at a used bookstore for only $6. And it was in pretty good condition so I just couldn't pass it up. I'm so anxious to read these that I plan to read The Name of the Wind before the end of the year and then start the year by reading The Wise Man's Fear.

Black Beauty
by Anna Sewell

The used bookstore near my school has some really pretty editions of classic children's novels, and I've been eyeing this one for a very long time. I included this book in my 30 Books Before 30 post (link here), and since it was fresh in my mind, I decided to finally go ahead and buy it. I read the kid's version several times, but I've never read the real thing, so I really need to get onto that.

The Wizard of Oz
by L Frank Baum

Contrasting the situation with Black Beauty, I actually did read the real version of this book when I was younger, and I really enjoyed it. And this version of the book was also at the used bookstore near my school, and it's even more beautiful than the Black Beauty one, and I just couldn't pass it up.

Obligatory BookOutlet Purchase...
(Black Friday Edition)

Ten
by Gretchen McNeil

I was immediately intrigued upon learning about this book. because it's a retelling of my favorite stand-alone novel, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. Do I expect it to be great? Nope. Nothing deep, nothing amazing, just a fun, fast-paced read. And if it's so bad that all I can do is laugh at how bad it is, that's great too!

Through the Ever Night
by Veronica Rossi

This is the second book in the Under The Never Sky trilogy. I don't have the first one, and I haven't read it yet, but I do like to marathon series if all of the books are out. I've been planning on reading this trilogy for quite a while, and this was less than $3, so I decided to get it and just go ahead and get books 1 and 3 when they're back on BookOutlet for cheap.

The Lost Code
by Kevin Emerson

This is the only book of the haul that I kinda just bought on a whim. All of the other books, I'd at least had an eye on for a little while. But I just came across this one while doing my Black Friday shopping and decided to add it into the cart. From the synopsis, it sounds like a really fast-paced dystopian with an interesting world. And it has a male lead, which is rare in a YA, so that should be really interesting.

The Final Empire
by Brandon Sanderson

I'm not exactly sure why the name of the series is HUGE on the cover, and the actual title of the book isn't even on the cover, but that's beside the point. I've been wanting to read this series for a while now, and the first book was less than $3, so I decided to go ahead and get it. I also included this in my 30 Books Before 30 post, so you can check that out here if you want to.

No One Else Can Have You
by Kathleen Hale

This seems like a really great, really cheesy, murder mystery. And those are just buckets of fun. I actually saw someone haul this a while back (can't remember who) and so when I saw it on BookOutlet for really cheap, I decided to go ahead and get it!

The Chronicles of Nick
Book 3: Infamous
Book 4: Inferno
by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I just love that BookOutlet has all of the books in this series for so cheap. I already have books 1 & 2, so I'm just adding on to my collection so that I can marathon these in the future. It seems like it's going to be really great!

Ruins
by Orson Scott Card

This is the second book in Orson Scott Card's Pathfinder series. I don't have the first book yet. It was on BookOutlet and was in my cart, but went out of stock before I could get a copy. So I just have the second book, and plan to get the first one eventually. I've heard lots of good things about these books, so I'm really excited to get into them!

So there you go! That's my last book haul of 2014! Hopefully, in the new year, I'll buy books at a slightly slower pace. I need to work on that.

I've started doing Booktube a little as well, so if you want to check that out, you can click HEREI plan to post most of my videos to my blog, but just in case I miss one or decide not to post it on here, that will keep you up-to date.

I've also created a Facebook page for my blog, so if you want to check that out and like it, you can click HERE. I'll try to keep that pretty up-to-date with new posts and such.

Thanks for reading! If you like my posts, I'd really appreciate if you'd subscribe/follow so that I know you're enjoying what I'm posting! See y'all soon!

October/November Book Haul [Book Haul #5]

Hey, y'all! So remember how I said I would see you in December? Oops, I lied. Not on purpose, of course, but I just didn't think about the fact that I'd be doing my book haul soon. My bad. This will probably be my last book haul of the year, because there's only one other book I want to read by the end of the year that I don't have. Also, since there are only 9 books in this haul, I'm not going to divide by sections. I'm just going to go book by book.

Also, as a side note, this is possibly the most excited I've ever been about a book haul. And I'm not saying that because I want you to get pumped or to try to get you to read on. I'm genuinely really excited about all of these books. I bought almost all of these with the intent to read them by the end of the year, so they're all ones that I'm really wanting to read. And there are a couple that I've already read.

Gone Girl
by Gillian Flynn

This is one of the books that I've already read. If you'd like to read my thoughts about it, you can click here to see my discussion post.

There was just so much buzz surrounding the movie and I really like mysteries/ psychological thrillers, so I was really interested in reading it. And it was definitely an interesting read.

The Rook
by Daniel O'Malley

After reading Ready Player One, I had a major book hangover. Like, bigtime. I wanted to read something exactly like it. Every time I looked on a website for similar books, this one popped up. I wasn't totally sure since it was more of an adult novel and I usually go for YA (not that I'm afraid of adult-- my brain just defaulted to looking for books that fit my typical genre rather than branching out). However, upon realizing that this was both a fantasy and a dystopian and after reading the very intriguing blurb, I was very interested. And also, because of my interest in a certain book (which pops up later in this haul), I've gotten really interested in adult fantasy.

The Chaos Walking Trilogy:
The Knife of Never Letting Go
The Ask and the Answer
Monsters of Men
by Patrick Ness

I've had my eye on these books for a while, and when deciding to get the first book, I just decided to buy the trilogy in matching covers. These covers are really pretty (especially The Knife of Never Letting Go) and I also love the spines.

This trilogy is a science fiction dystopian (oh look, my fave word!) and it just sounds insanely interesting. I know that when I read the first, I'll want to continue immediately. The only concern I have with these is that their binding is really tight. They almost seem like they're British binding and I'm not excited about that because I hate breaking spines, especially really pretty ones like these. I just want them to loosen to that I can actually open them without being scared of cracking the spine.

A Clash of Kings
by George R.R. Martin

I had both the first and the third book in this series, and I want to start it sometime near the beginning of next year, so I decided to go ahead and get the second book. I really like the big, floppy, trade paperback copies, so that's what I went for. I found this used online, so it was pretty inexpensive. So now I can marathon the first three books and hopefully the rest of the series once I buy them!

The Bane Chronicles
by Cassandra Clare

Y'all. This was like my most anticipated book of the year other than City of Heavenly Fire. I absolutely love Magnus Bane. He's possibly my favorite character in the Shadowhunter world. He's just so snarky and sassy  and sarcastic and I love him. The cover is gorgeous, and I could not be more excited about getting to read even more about him. This is my next read after the one I'm reading right now.

The Diviners
by Libba Bray

This is the other book in the haul that I've already read. I discussed it in the same post as my Gone Girl discussion, so you can click here if you want to check out my discussion about The Diviners as well. I won't go into too much detail here, but let's just say that I enjoyed it and am eagerly awaiting the second book in the series (trilogy?). Going into it, I'd heard many really great things, but wasn't certain about how much I'd like it. So I was cautiously optimistic. But I ended up really enjoying it!

The Bone Season
by Samantha Shannon

This is actually the book that I'm reading right now. I watched a book haul that Regan (PeruseProject on Youtube) did, and in it, she hauled this book. When she said fantasy and dystopian within the same breath, my interest was peaked. And when she explained what it was about, I immediately went and found a used copy online and ordered it because it just sounded so incredibly interesting. I love both genres and it's set in England, and it's going to be a series, and it just seems to be everything I really like in books. So far, I'm really loving it.

So there you go, that's all for my October/November Book Haul! Like I said at the beginning of the post, this will probably be the last book haul of the year. I have all but one of the books that I want to read by the end of the year, so I shouldn't be buying any more after that one. Maybe.

I'll be back in a few days with my TBR for the rest of the year, which might be outdated by the time I get it up, because I might have finished The Bone Season by then. Either way, I do plan to get that up later this week.

August/September Book Haul [Book Haul #4]

Hey, y'all! I'm here with another book haul! I didn't do one in August, because I didn't really buy many books in August. But with August and September combined, I think I now have enough to post a haul!

Books at Home

As you may know if you've kept up with my blog, I took a trip home to visit my parents in August. While there, I purchased a few books for nostalgia's sake, and left them at home because I'm not planning on re-reading them any time soon. But I decided that I should go ahead and show you what they are.

A to Z Mysteries:
Absent Author, Haunted Hotel, Missing Mummy, and Runaway Racehorse

I absolutely loved this series as a child, and these four were my favorite. I found them at a used bookstore for pretty cheap, and since I've been collecting books from my childhood, I decided to go ahead and get them.

Magic Tree House Series: Midnight on the Moon

This was another of my favorite series as a child. I purchased book 10 (Ghost Town at Sundown) a few months back, and this one is my other favorite in the series, so when I saw it at that same used bookstore, I decided to go ahead and get it.

OK, now I'm going to move on to the books that I actually have with me!

Obligatory BookOutlet Order

Seriously, I've had a BookOutlet purchase on all of the book hauls that I've done so far. But at least I didn't go crazy with it!

Listen To This by Alex Ross

I bought two books by Alex Ross in this BookOutlet purchase. This one was a bit more of a whim. I knew I wanted his other book, but decided that I might as well get this one too. Alex Ross is a music historian, and while I'm not sure exactly what all this book covers, I do know that it covers a broad range of music history, including both classical/art musicians and pop/contemporary musicians. I absolutely love music history, so I felt the need to pick it up.

Girl of Nightmares
by Kendare Blake

This is the sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood, which I showed in my last haul. I plan to read scary/horror novels in October, so I thought I should go ahead and pick this one up. Neither of them are extremely long, so hopefully I can get through both of them along with the other books I want to read next month!

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

I have several series on my TBR list, but this one is right at the top. I've wanted to read the Lunar Chronicles for quite a while. Scarlet was really cheap on BookOutlet, so it was a no-brainer.

The Rest Is Noise by Alex Ross

As I mentioned earlier, this is the other Alex Ross book that I got off of BookOutlet. I know significantly more about this book, because I've already read 2 chapters of it for class. This book focuses on the history of art music throughout the 20th century, focusing on the most important composers and compositions. It's a little dense, but 20th century "classical"/art music is my absolute favorite and I love reading more about it.

You Are Now Less Dumb
by David McRaney

This book is the sequel to "You Are Not So Smart," which was the first book that I read this year. Each chapter of the book is centered around a certain theory or concept, and McRaney explains ways that your brain tricks you or ways that you're deluded into believing incorrect things. It's super interesting and McRaney has a really fun, witty writing style.

Used Bookstores

These were purchased at different places and in different times, but they were all purchased at used bookstores!

Clockwork Angel
by Cassandra Clare

I read this book (the first in Cassie's Infernal Devices trilogy) in May and although it's my least favorite in the trilogy, it's an amazing book, and I only had it in paperback. I found it in hardcover for $5 and had to snatch it up. If you'd like to see my thoughts on the book, you can click here to see the post I did on it back in May.

Gone by Michael Grant

I got this one at the used bookstore while visiting my parents. I'd been eyeing this series for a while, but I actually kinda like the terrible original covers with the dramatic models more than the new covers. So when I found this original cover, I had to snatch it up!

A Series of Unfortunate Events
Book 13: The End
by Lemony Snicket

I acquired the other 12 books in this series in my May/June book haul. I wasn't in any rush to get this one, but since I came across it in the same used bookstore where I found Gone, I decided to go ahead and pick it up.

Full-Priced Purchases

I bought these at different places, but unlike all the other books in this haul, they weren't bought used or on an inexpensive site... so they're called the full-priced books.

More Than This by Patrick Ness

So, lately I've been in a reading slump. It's not that I don't want to read, it's just that I've been extremely busy, and in my free time, I just want to sit and do nothing. So, last weekend, I decided that the best way to get out of my slump would be to figure out what I'm in the mood to read and to get a single book that fits that perfectly and to read it. I had some specific ideas. I wanted something in one of my two favorite genres (fantasy and dystopian), I wanted it to be a quick, fast-paced read, and I wanted a stand-alone. I took to GoodReads, and came up with More Than This. I still have yet to start it, but I'm hoping to start it tonight. Crossing my fingers.

Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix

I pre-ordered this book because I was really intrigued by the premise. It's a horror book set in an Ikea-esque furniture store... and it's formatted like a catalog. That's just so incredibly intriguing to me. I'm definitely reading this as part of my October scary book month. So excited!

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

With all the hype surrounding the movie, I really wanted to get the book. I was also in a contemporary mood after reading Fangirl. I wasn't really in the mood for the contemporaries that I had, so I decided to get this and read it. I ended up getting into my reading slump before I could read it, but it's there on my TBR for whenever I feel like reading it.

So there we go, those are all the books I bought over the past two months! Hopefully, I can get out of this reading slump and actually read some of these books!

July Book Haul [Book Haul #3]

Hey, y'all! I'm here with my July book haul! I bought 14 books this month, which was more than I wanted to buy, but I don't really feel bad about it because several are books I have already read, and several are ones that I plan on reading this month.

Anyway, enough rambling. On to THE BOOKS.

Amazon Purchases

I bought all of these books off of Amazon at different times throughout the month, some just from Amazon, and some from their third-party vendors.

Project Runway: The Show That Changed Fashion

I actually already owned this book. I bought it right when it came out two years ago. However, if you remember from my bookshelf tour (Click here for part 1), I had this sitting on my windowsill. Well... apparently, we had a leaky windowsill and my copy was ruined. So I found a new copy from a third-party vendor on Amazon for only like $5, so I went ahead and got it and tossed the ruined copy.

Literary Listography

This is the most recent in a series of Listography books. I actually pre-ordered it so that I could get it this month on the day it came out. Each page has a different list for you to fill out. Since this one is all about books, there are lists to fill out such as "Favorite books of all-time" and "Favorite fantasy books." I also have the Music Listography and the original Listography. So far, I'm really liking this one!

The Shadowhunter's Codex
by Cassandra Clare and Joshua Lewis

I own and have read all of Cassandra Clare's books, so I really wanted to get this one. I found it for only $5 from a third-party vendor on Amazon, so I snagged it. I plan on reading it this month, so it's not really adding anything to my TBR.

172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad

I've been eyeing this one for a while. A horror novel set on the moon sounds extremely intriguing, and when I saw it for only $7 on amazon, I went ahead and bought it. I'm hoping that I get to read this in October with my horror TBR!

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

This. Book. I've been wanting to read this for so incredibly long. This is actually the book I'm reading right now, but I'm not too far into it. Anyway, I picked it up right at the beginning of the month when I saw it for $7 on Amazon. It was also the best place to find it in paperback, and for once I significantly preferred the paperback cover, so I was glad to find it pretty inexpensively.

Unite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Yet another one I've been eyeing for quite a while, and it was $6 on Amazon. You know the drill by this point. I'm also not adding anything to my TBR, because I've already read it!

Four by Veronica Roth

I found this one one day at Target. I knew that she would be releasing a collection of novellas told from Four's POV, but I thought they were going to be separate and that they were going to be published as ebooks. So when I saw this sitting at Target, I just decided to pick it up.

Book Outlet

As usual, I made yet another Book Outlet purchase. Although this time I tried to keep it relatively small!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

This was the book that prompted the Book Outlet purchase. I had seen this on Book Outlet off and on, but every time I found it, there weren't other books on there that I really wanted, and each time I went to go make a larger purchase, it was never there. And it would be pointless to buy it on Book Outlet without anything else, because then I would basically be paying full price. Either way, I plan on reading this within the next couple weeks!

Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

I saw that it was only about 3 dollars, and had been wanting to read it, so I went ahead and grabbed it. This may be included in my October horror TBR, but at the same time, I'd probably want to read the sequel immediately after and I have a very long list of books I want to read in that month already... so maybe not. Either way, this sounds like a really interesting take on a ghost story, and the text is a very subtle shade of red, which is super cool.

The Travelers Books 1 & 3

These two books are the first and last books in a trilogy based off of the Pendragon series by DJ MacHale. Each book has 3 stories, each one about one of the 9 travelers (except Bobby Pendragon) prior to the Pendragon series. I just recently found out that these are not actually written by DJ MacHale, which bums me out just a little, but it will still be nice to read stories about my favorite travelers. And since my two favorites are the ones featured in the middle of these two covers, I'm hoping their stories are longer and more intense than the others.

HARRY POTTER!

This month, I was finally able to find the last two books I needed to complete my hardcover Harry Potter collection!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

This may be my least favorite book in the Harry Potter series (check out this series post and this video to learn more about my Harry Potter rankings) but I still wanted a pristine copy of it, and for an inexpensive price. And I finally found one!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Even after re-reading the Harry Potter series in June, my rankings of the books didn't really change. Apparently, I've got a pretty good grasp on which are my favorites and which aren't. What did change, however, is the gaps between each ranking. Previously, I'd had Order of the Phoenix (5th fave) and Goblet of Fire (4th fave) mostly tied, with Goblet of Fire getting a slight edge. After this read, however, Goblet of Fire is almost tied with Prisoner of Azkaban, which is my 3rd favorite. Either way, it went from getting 4 stars on GoodReads to 5, which is an extremely rare occurrence for me.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard

Finally, I also found The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which I still hadn't purchased for some reason. I borrowed my friend's copy years ago, but hadn't ever bought it myself. Thankfully, my favorite used bookstore had it for $4, so I got it along with the other Harry Potter books I found that day!

So there we go, those are the 14 books I bought this month! Like I said, I didn't plan on buying very many this month, but since I've already read several and plan to read several this month, I don't feel bad about it. I do still plan on trying to buy very few books, so I'll probably only be allowing myself to purchase books that I have on my TBR for the rest of the year.
